The Platte County Pirate wrestling team soundly defeated
the Chillicothe Hornets 67-9, in both teams first
conference duals of the season. They wrestled at Chillicothe
on Thursday, Jan. 3.
Senior Brett Rolofson returned to action after sitting
out due to a leg injury. Rolofson wrestled as if the injury
had little affect on him, pinning his 103-pound opponent
in just 1:18.
Junior Jason Callaway was nearly flawless in his performance,
as he also won by a fall over the Hornets 112-pound
wrestler in 1:57.
The third match of the night was also determined by a
pin fall, as sophomore Caleb Dixon pinned his 119-pound
opposition in just 1:18.
Sophomore Steve Fisher did not pin his opponent, but
was victorious over the 125-pound wrestler from Chillicothe,
winning by a 14-6 major decision.
In the next match, Platte County stayed in the win column
as sophomore Joe Hobbs won the 130-pound match by a 1:42
pin fall.
Platte County suffered its first loss of the night in
the 135-pound match. Freshman Tommy Grutzmacher filled
in for sophomore James Bascue. Grutzmacher lost by a 13-7
decision.
The only other loss for Platte County during the night
came in the 140-pound match; sophomore Jake Riner lost
after a pin fall that came 3:16 into the match.
Junior Brock Wittmeyer was able to give Platte County
a victory and break the brief losing streak. Wittmeyer
pinned the 145-pound grappler from Chillicothe in 2:43
into the match.
Senior Jake Fisher added another pin fall victory for
the Pirates, pinning his 152-pound opponent in 3:04.
The winning streak against Chillicothe was extended,
as senior Robbie Campbell was able to win his match by
a large 17-4 major decision.
Junior wrestler Nick Jaros quickly defeated his opponent
in the 171-pound class with a pin that came just 1:15
into the match.
Senior Zach Sherman was perfect in the 189-pound match,
winning the match with a 15-0 technical fall.
In the 215-pound match, junior Nick Butrous was able
to pin his opponent after 5:03 had passed.
Senior Charles Grutzmacher concluded the night with a
pin fall victory in the 275-pound or heavyweight match.
Grutzmacher pinned his opponent 3:00 into the match.
The next action for the Pirates comes on Tuesday, Jan.
15, when they will face conference rival Smithville at
home beginning at 6 p.m.
