Basketball
teams beaten
in season openers

by Tad Brewer
Landmark reporter

Both the Pirates boys’ basketball team and the Lady Pirates girls’ basketball team are off to rough starts so far during this still young basketball season.

The boys basketball team fell to Richmond 69-58 to open its season. Despite leading for most of the game, the Pirates fell behind late in the ball game and could never catch up. Leading scorers included starters senior Mitch Black, juniors Bobby Neill and Kyle Richter, and freshman Zo Riley.

Upcoming games for the Pirate boys’ basketball team include Hogan, on Dec. 7, at home, St. Pius, on Dec. 11, away, Oak Grove, on Dec. 14, at home, and West Platte, on Dec. 17, away. All games, with exception to the Oak Grove game, begin at 5 p.m. The Oak Grove game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The girls’ team opened its season by falling to Pleasant Hill.

Their upcoming games include St. Pius, on Dec. 6, away; West Platte, on Dec. 11, away; Odessa, on Dec. 17, at home; and LeBlond, on Dec. 19, also at home.

The St. Pius and LeBlond games start at 5 p.m. and the West Platte and Odessa games both are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
