In one of their final home games of the season, the Platte
County girls softball team defeated Park Hill South
10-0.
Both teams played through a defensive struggle until
the Pirates came up to bat in the third inning.
Senior Jamie Horst started the action out for the Pirates
in the third inning by hitting an inside the park home
run over the right fielder.
After the home run, sophomore Hillary Tanck followed
it up by ripping a single. Tanck then went on to steal
second. Junior Jill Prather hit the ball to third but
threw wild to first allowing Tanck to score from second
and letting Prather reach first safely.
Prather stole second and third bases on consecutive pitches.
Senior Devin McCray drove home Prather as McCray safely
doubled.
Still in the same inning, senior Jeanna Prather singled
home McCray. Senior Jessica Lackey tripled and scored
Prather from first, making the score 5-0.
Sophomore Heather Tanck began the next inning with a
single and then stole second and third bases. Jill Prather
had an infield single that drove in Tanck. McCray followed
this up with an infield single as well. Senior Samantha
Ward loaded the bases with the third infield single of
the inning. Even though it looked as if the Pirates were
in position to score several runs, the bases were left
loaded making the score 6-0 after four innings of play.
The Pirates scored four more runs in the fifth inning.
With junior Whitney Murie on base, Horst bunted herself
on. Hillary Tanck scored both the runners on a single.
Jill Prather was hit by a pitch and was allowed to take
first base. McCray then singled in both of the runners.
Ward pitched a complete game shutout for the Pirates,
who went on to win the game 10-0.
The softball team will play in sectionals on Oct. 10
and 11.
