The St. Louis to Kansas City connection
completed another minor chapter on Tuesday afternoon as
the Chiefs quickly signed KR/WR/RB Aveion Cason to their
practice squad after his release from the Rams.
Cason is an undrafted rookie out of Illinois State that
began the season as the Rams number one kickoff returner.
He lost that job with a fumbled kickoff return during
the week one game against the Eagles.
He had an excellent pre-season returning kicks for the
Rams and won the kick return job. He returned 4 kick-offs
averaging 18.3 yards per return for the Rams in game one.
He was then made inactive for game two, demoted to the
practice squad for game three and released on Monday after
Rams head coach Mike Martz questioned his practice habits.
Cason is a running back that was quickly switched to
WR in the Rams training camp. He has the track like speed
that the Chiefs are craving. If he can impress in practice
he is a candidate to come off the Chiefs practice
squad and begin showing off that speed in a Chiefs
uniform on kick returns.
The practice squad spot became available after the Atlanta
Falcons signed fourth round draft pick George Layne off
of the KC practice squad earlier Tuesday.
Injuries Piling Up
The earlier whispers about FB Tony Richardson are now
being stated out loud. Hes very doubtful (for)
this ball game, Vermeil declared during Tuesdays
press conference. Look for backup FB Jermaine Williams
to be the starting fullback if Richardson cant go.
Starting DE Duane Clemons is questionable with a sore
patellar tendon.
