The proposed Oberdiek hog operation expansion in Platte
County is still awaiting final approval from Missouri
Department of Natural Resources.
According to Gary Oberdiek, the engineers notified him
before Thanksgiving of their plans to visit the high rise
facility in Ohio before making their decision.
Gary, along with his brother Warren of Farley, want to
expand their current hog expansion to include two hog-finishing
facilities. The plans are based on a facility in use in
Ohio. The buildings would be two levels and have the ability
to house 1,100 hogs each and will be a dry handling manure
system.
The engineers will be visiting the Ohio site to study
how the facility works and if its operates the way it
is said to be operating.
Oberdiek stated he is unsure when the final decision
will be determined. According to Randy Clarkson, engineer
section chief with the DNR's Water Pollution Control Program,
the decision could take several months.
