by Kim Fickett
Landmark reporter

At Monday evening's Platte County R-3 School Board meeting, a salary increase for the district's teachers and support staff was approved.

The board voted to increase the base salary for the teachers by $800, bringing the salary from $29,200 to $30,000 beginning in fiscal year 2005. That's a 2.7% increase.

The board also approved a 4.5% increase in salary for the support staff of the school district.

In other items, the board awarded the locker bid to replace 204 lockers at Barry Elementary to Locker Systems, Inc. in the amount of $19,660. A second bid was awarded to Calvert’s Paving Co. in the amount of $26,360, for asphalt work at Siegrist Elementary and repair work around Rising Star Elementary.

The board also awarded the technology bid to Dell Computers for 95 replacement computers for a lab at Barry Elementary and a lab at the high school. The bid also included one desktop computer and a printer.

In executive session, the board approved the hiring of Marla Troncin Adams as a practical nurse instructor for the Northland Career Center, Betty Rust as an A+ Counselor/NCC placement counselor and Jennifer Goering as a lunch clerk at Siegrist Elementary.
