R-3 again presented
'Award of Distinction'

by Mark Vasto
Landmark reporter

The Platte R-3 school district was accorded the Award of Distinction for High Performance, it was announced at Thursday night's meeting of the board of education. The district was one of only 176 out of 524 districts in the state to earn the distinction.
The award is presented to districts that meet at least 11 of the 12 standards on their annual performance reviews. The standards measure performance based on the Missouri Assessment Program test, reading scores, the ACT, advanced courses, vocational courses, college placement, vocational placement, dropout rates and attendance.

"We’re honored,” said R-3 Superintendent Dr. Mark Harpst. “It’s the highest honor a school district can receive in the state of Missouri.”

The annual performance report is part of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), which evaluates school districts on a five-year cycle. This is the fourth year in a row that Platte County R-3 has earned the award.
