For the second time in the past several months, a police
officer serving as school resource officer (SRO) at Platte
County R-3 High School has resigned.
Platte City Police Chief Bill Massock announced Tuesday
night that officer Mike Guinn has left the department.
Massock said Guinn gave a resignation letter listing personal/health
reasons for his resignation.
Guinn had served as SRO at the high school since January
when he replaced Alan Lowry, who had resigned.
Prior to taking the SRO post, Guinn had intermittently
worked for the police department for several years, at
various times filling in as acting chief.
There will not be an immediate replacement to fill the
SRO post, Massock said, because the police department
is shorthanded at present. Chris Hein, a police officer
for Platte City for less than a year, has also resigned.
Hein will be working for the North Kansas City Police
Department, Massock said.
Massock said it could be roughly 10 weeks before the
positions are filled, after advertisements are placed
and the interview process is conducted.
