Destruction
of property at Riverview
Three pickup trucks raced through Riverview Park in Platte
City about 2 a.m. Sunday, causing damage to the soccer
field there.
Platte City Police Chief Joe McHale said Officer Matthew
Brantner observed the vehicles driving in the park, where
they eventually got onto the soccer field and began "farming
the land" with their vehicles, the chief said. Brantner
was able to stop two of the trucks, while the third escaped
into the woods nearby.
One of the trucks was driven by a juvenile with two juvenile
passengers. The driver was booked for careless driving
and destruction of property, charges that will be pursued
through the juvenile court system.
Charges against the driver of the other truck are pending,
the chief said, adding that the man's name was being withheld
until charges are filed. The suspect is a 24-year-old
Platte City resident, the chief said. The man was taken
into custody on suspicion of DWI, but his blood-alcohol
content tested at .06, lower than the legal limit of .08,
so he will not face a DWI charge. He will face other charges,
likely to include destruction of property, McHale indicated.
