Extension Council candidates are profiled
Platte County citizens are en-couraged to visit their
libraries during Extension Council elections: Jan. 18-25th
to vote for their representatives.
Ballots will also be available from the candidates and
at Platte County Administration Building and Platte Woods
Annex, Extension office, USDA offices in Platte City,
and Farley State Bank in Farley.
West Platte School District
(2 openings)
Rosie Fulk: Married for 44 years to Frank. Now retired,
but has worked at Hallmark Cards, TWA, Platte County R-3
School District and has owned 2 clothing stores. Member
and volunteer at Platte City Baptist. Community activities:
GFWC in Platte City Study Club, and served on District
Board and now on State Board; American Business Women,
Platte County Democratic Womens Club, PTA, Girl
Scouts and Pet Power.
Maureen Hunt: Works at the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency in Kansas City, Kansas. Education: Loretto Academy,
B.S. Ed, B. A. Philosophy, and MPA with special training
in paralegal and geology. She is interested in bringing
educational resources of EPA to Extension groups, 4-H,
tourism development, small acreage and rural environmental
issues.
Peggy B. Strickland: Employed part time at Strickland
Properties and Weston Family Medical Center. Education:
Benson High School, Kansas State University and Bachelors
in Nursing from University of Kansas. Community activities:
Weston United Methodist Church Sunday school teacher and
vacation Bible school director; Coordinator of Thrifty
Pantry Food Co-op, 4-H parent and project leader, and
Childrens Activity sponsor at AppleFest Committee.
By being a member of the Extension Council I feel
this would be a valuable way of being involved in the
community.
Joe Taloff: Pastoral ministry for 20 years in several
Missouri parishes; has been chaplain with Platte County
Sheriffs Department for 6 ½ years; Worked
at crisis counselor during the 93 Flood and has
served as Platte County Coordinator with Community 2000
program. Other community activities include serving on
West Platte Board of Education, Board of KCMC Child Development
Corporation, and Platte City VFW chaplain
North Platte School District & Platte County residents
in Smithville & East Buchanan School Districts

Lona Fowler: Employed at the Platte County Circuit Clerk
office as a deputy clerk in the child support division.
Education: North Platte graduate and specialty courses
through Missouri Farm Bureau. Community activities: Platte
County Farm Bureau financial and fair committees, American
Royal Volunteer for their farm/city tours, and 4-H project
leader.
Jeff Goodnight: Works at UMB Bank in Kansas City, MO.
Education: Shawnee Mission Northwest, Park University.
Community activities: Officer at St. Johns Lutheran
Church, member of American Dairy Goat Association, American
Pastured Poultry Producers, and Northland Lutheran School
Association board of directors.
Corky Reineke: Parent Educator with R-3 Parents as Teachers
program; Education: Bachelors of Science in Vocal Music,
NWSU; Masters in Early Childhood Education, UMKC.

Sondra Stubbs: Works at North Platte School District.
Education: North Platte and Hillyard Vo-Tech graduate.
Community activities: North Platte PTA where she has been
President, Vice President, Secretary and Parliamentarian,
North Platte Booster Club, Sunday School teacher and in
the choir at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She serves as basketball
& softball coach with the Platte County Sports Inc.
Park Hill School District

Su Bacon: Self-employed as freelance journalist with
Susan Bacon Enterprises, Inc. She is a former faculty
member of Kansas State Extension Service. Education: Masters
in Journalism. Community activities: Member of Parkville
branch of American Association of University Women, president,
1999-2003, Pet Power volunteer.
Harold Edelbaum: Account executive for Brown and Bigelow
Advertising Specialties for 17 years and been a Fire Engineer
and EMT for Fire Department for 27 years. Education: Associates
Degree from Metropolitan Community Junior Colleges. Harold
is a parent of Park Hill student. Id like
to contribute my time for the betterment of our community."
Doris Gerner: Retired Platte County Clerk. Education:
BA in Political Science from Park University. Community
activities: League of Women Voters, Park University Alumni
Council, Platte County AARP Secretary, Platte County Democratic
Central Committee, 4-H alumni, and served on Park Hill
Board of Education for 6 years. She has lived in Platte
County since 1958 and believes strongly in UOE programs
Kim Cooper-Sloan: Self-employed; water fitness instructor,
tour guide at Harley Davidson. Education: North Kansas
City High School & University of Missouri-Columbia.
Has served 8 years with the U.S. Army Reserves. Community
activities: PTA, Big Brothers & Sisters, church, Southern
Platte County Athletic Association coach. Life-long resident
of the Northland.
Fred Whisman: A Principal at GMI Research and Consulting
and has worked at Federal Reserve Bank. Education: Masters
in Organization Communications from UMKC. Community: American
Cancer Society, Boy Scouts; Park Hill parent, PTA.

and Zoning. Education: Platte County R3 graduate, 2 years
at NWMSU, Certified Building Inspector with special training
in Code Enforcement, Flood Plain Management Construction

Fellowship Church, Sunday school teacher, and help with
nursery & vacation Bible school; Music Parents Association.
Mary Reder: Employed at Platte City License Bureau. Education:
Academy of Mt. St. Scholastic, Longview Community College,
and NEK Technical College. Community activities: Cub Scouts
Den Leader, PTA Volunteer coordinator. I would like
to serve on the Platte County University Extension Council
because this would give me an opportunity to contribute
to the community.
