Accident stalls traffic on interstate

A traffic accident stalled the northbound lanes of Interstate 29 near the Platte River Bridge just north of Platte City Friday evening.

The accident occurred when a northbound 1993 Mercury driven by Ernest Glauser, 82, of St. Joseph, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and came to rest in the northbound lanes of I-29.

A wood post from the guardrail flew into the southbound lanes of the interstate and struck a 1999 Honda driven by Glenn E. Owen, 53, of Kansas City.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Glauser was issued citations for careless and imprudent driving and for no seatbelt. Glauser suffered minor injuries in the crash; Owen was not injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m Friday.
