There's still time to enter queen contest

The deadline is nearing for Platte County ladies between the ages of 17 and 22 (as of Sept. 1, 2002) to become contestants in the search for the queen of the 139th Platte County Fair.

Entries must be postmarked no later than July 10 for consideration. The queen will be awarded scholarship money for her college education, reign over the county fair in July, and represent Platte County at the Missouri State Fair in August.

The competition will include a private interview of each contestant, as well as an appearance in evening wear and talent or speech presentation during the contest.

The contest will be held July 22 at 7 p.m. in the Platte Purchase Building at the Fairgrounds in Tracy.

The queen will be crowned on July 24, the opening of the fair which will run through July 27.

Each contestant must have a sponsor. The fair is also seeking businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in being an event sponsor or donating to the scholarship fund.

Those interested in sponsorships should call Jackie Babcock at 816-858-5303, or contact a member of the fair board.

For more information or an application to enter the queen contest, call Corky Reineke at 816-790-3753.
