Incumbent Platte County Presiding Commissioner Betty
Knight will not have opposition in her party's August
primary election after all.
Failure to file a personal financial disclosure with
the Platte County Clerk's office has resulted in the removal
of a candidate's name in the upcoming presiding commissioner
race on the Republican ballot.
According to Wendy Flanigan, director for the Platte
County Board of Elections, she received a phone call from
County Clerk Sandy Krohne on May 23, informing her of
the need to remove Donn Swaggerty's name from the ballot
for presiding commissioner.
Flanigan stated that according to Missouri state law,
the need to file a personal financial disclosure report
is a requirement candidates or elected officials must
meet if the position being sought pertains to any public
entity with an operating budget over $1 million. The report
was required to be filed with Krohne's office by April
16.
Phone calls to Swaggerty for comment had been unreturned
by Landmark press time.
Knight will face opposition in the November general election
from Curt Cook, Democrat of Camden Point.
