Association proposes beginning farmers market in Platte City

by Kim Fickett
Landmark reporter

Members and guests of the Platte City Area Development Association met Monday, and the group continued to discuss the possibility of beginning a farmer's market later this spring.

A possible location for the farmer's market is being discussed. The market could begin in May.

Members also heard that membership cards and/or membership certificates could soon be developed, and heard a report on welcome activities that are currently sponsored by the Platte City Chamber of Commerce.

The lunchtime meeting was held at Fannie's Restaurant. The group meets on the last Monday of every month.

The Platte City Area Development Association is an organization of business persons and citizens organized for the purpose of promoting the development of new and existing retail and wholesale business within the Platte City area, and the betterment of commercial areas.

Four goals for the organization have been identified as:

1. Define areas in need of improvement and develop feasible plans for such improvement for presentation to proper entities for implementation.

2. Be supportive, when appropriate, of city governments in the area, as well as county government.

3. Develop working relationships with such organizations as may be available, such as but not limited to Platte City Parks and Recreation Board, Platte City Garden Club and various civic clubs.

4. Work with business persons and residents within the area for the development and maintenance of the aesthetically valid community.
