victim dies in hospital
An 83-year-old Weston man died over the weekend at North
Kansas City Hospital as a result of injuries he suffered
in a car accident Feb. 19 in Platte City.
As reported in last week's issue of The Landmark, George
Hayden, was hospitalized following the accident which
occurred at 9:37 a.m. on Feb. 19 at Zed Martin and Second
Streets.
The vehicle driven by Hayden was headed west on Zed Martin
when police say he failed to obey a stop sign at the T-shaped
intersection. The car crossed Second Street, went airborne,
and landed in a lot where the car continued until hitting
a trash bin at 908 2nd Street.
Three other passengers were also in the vehicle at the
time of the accident. 77-year-old, Verna Hayden of Weston,
70-year-old, Roy Dunn of Weston, and 67-year-old, Martha
Dunn of Weston. The three passengers were treated and
released.
Hayden died on Saturday. His obituary is printed elsewhere
in this issue.
Police Chief Bill Massock said it is the first traffic
fatality in Platte City in recent memory.
