A suspect in a drug arrest fought with a Platte County deputy Tuesday night after car stop not far from the airport.
Platte County Sheriff’s Department officials report that shortly after 9 p.m., the deputy stopped a vehicle on Interstate 29 south of 112th Street.
During the stop, the driver of the vehicle, who the sheriff’s department described as a 41-year- old Asian male, fought with the deputy and fled into a field on KCI Airport property between Prairie View Road and a runway.
The suspect was apprehended after a short period of time and did not make it onto the runway. Both the deputy and the suspect sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
Authorities said they recovered about six pounds of suspected marijuana from the suspect’s vehicle.
As of Wednesday morning, the driver was still in custody on a 24-hour investigative hold at the Platte County Detention Center.
The sheriff’s department says it was assisted in the incident by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, the Platte City Police Department, the Weston Police Department and the KCI Airport Police Department.
