Fire ripped through a condemned building early Friday evening in Parkville.
The fire occurred in a vacant building formerly occupied by a commercial business along Highway 9. The structure is located next to ADH Hitch. The building, valued at roughly $10,000, was scheduled for demolition later this month.
According to Chief Richard Carrizzo with the Southern Platte Fire Department, all utilities to the building were disconnected except for the electricity.
“The electricity was on at the structure to allow the needed repairs to be done for the demolition,” said Carrizzo.
At this time, the cause of the fire is undetermined. Arson has not been ruled out, Carrizzo said.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The building suffered approximately $2,000 worth of damages. The fire was contained by the Southern Platte Fire Department with aid from the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department.
Traffic was reportedly backed up for several blocks before motorists were rerouted through Riss Lake. The incident took place during the evening commute.
