Prepare to take a charge. Platte County’s longest-running public NCAA bracket contest is just around the corner.
It’s time to gear up for The Landmark’s 14th annual NCAA basketball Bracket Battle.
Entry of course is free and limited to one per person. This year’s winner will receive a $100 cash prize, as well as bragging rights and as much Landmark publicity as the winner cares to receive.
But there’s a chance for everybody to come out a winner. Again this year, Landmark publisher Ivan Foley is offering rewards to those who finish with a higher score than he does. Anyone with a higher score than Foley will receive two one-year subscriptions to The Landmark, the county’s only countywide newspaper.
Both years can be applied to the entrant’s subscription, or keep one for yourself and pass the other year to a friend or family member.
Bracket pairings will be announced on Selection Sunday, March 14. Entries in The Landmark’s contest are due by 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18.
To enter, fill out a copy of the bracket, which you can clip out of the daily papers or print one off the many internet sites that will have them.
Choose a winner for every tournament game. Important new rule this year: Entrants must write in the name of the team they think will win, NOT the number of the team’s seed (this makes for much easier grading).
Any lines left blank will be counted as a loss.
As a potential tiebreaker, write in how many points you think will be scored in the national championship game.
Entries can be faxed to The Landmark at 816-858-2313 or send your entry by email to ivan@plattecountylandmark.com
Entries can also be dropped off at the historic Landmark office at 252 Main Street in downtown Platte City.
Entries can be snail mailed to PO Box 410, Platte City, MO 64079, but remember the entry must arrive by 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18.
Be sure to write your name and phone number on your bracket. Also, don’t forget to write in how many total points you think will be scored in the championship game.
Scoring will be done as follows:
Two points for each correct first round pick; four points for second round winners; six points for third round winners; eight points in the fourth round; 15 points in the fifth round and 30 points for picking the tournament champion.
Good luck. Questions? Call Foley at 816-858-2313 or email him at ivan@plattecountylandmark.com
