Third ward residents in Platte City will only have one alderman for the next few weeks after the resignation of Aaron Jung.
Jung’s resignation was first reported Monday by The Landmark on its Twitter page at www.twitter.com/ivanfoley
Jung submitted a letter of resignation Monday morning, stating that he and his wife have purchased property outside the city limits and that he is no longer eligible to serve.
Mayor Frank Offutt told board members Tuesday night that he expects to have a replacement in place for board members to vote on by the next meeting. That person will serve until next April when there are civic elections.
In his resignation letter, Jung said he will continue to operate his business, Horticultural Impressions, located in Platte City. Jung was first elected to the board in 2006.
In his letter Jung urged the city to “continue its work in molding the future of town on the east side of I-29.”
Jung also thanked the community for its support and said he has made some life-long friendships through his experiences.
Jung's term expires in April of 2011. Candidates interested in serving as third ward alderman can begin filing to run for the seat beginning Dec. 15 with the city clerk.
Candidates will need to specify if they are running for the one-year remaining on Jung’s term or the full two-year term seat in Ward 3 when declaring their candidacy.
