Police are now actively looking for a Parkville woman who is a person of interest in the death of her ex-husband.
Letti Strait, 48, also known as Letti Kay Rivera-Strait, is being sought to face four felony counts in relation to a false tax return that was filed this past January. Her bond is set at $3,000.
According to court documents, Strait filed a 2008 income tax return claiming her four children.
Strait's four children were placed in the custody of the Missouri Children's Services days after her ex-husband, Charles V. Cammisano, was found shot several times and laying in a pool of blood at his Riverside residence on High Drive in September of 2007.
According to court documents, Strait has not had overnight visitation with the children since Sept. 4, 2007.
Strait and her husband at the time were both taken into custody after a brief standoff with police. Both were questioned and later released. No charges have been filed in Cammisano's murder.
Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd would not comment on any specifics of the investigation. Zahnd did say that he believed the case was newsworthy because of Strait's status as a person of interest in the Cammisano case but did not comment as to whether authorities wanted to question Strait additionally about the murder. Zahnd did say that the case was “very active.”
“We believe there are people out there that know what happened to Charles Cammisano,” Zahnd said.
Charges against Strait include attempting to avoid state income tax, filing a false income tax return, stealing by deceit and failing to pay state income tax. If convicted, she could face 22 years in prison.
According to the court documents, Strait received a federal refund of $3,520 instead of paying $2,718 if she had filed a proper return. Strait also turned in an even return in Missouri instead of paying $275.89 of state income tax.
Police say Strait's last known address was 6708 NW Mirror Lake Terrace in Platte County. Zahnd said Strait may be homeless and that the latest information says Strait may be in the Kansas City area or Republic County, Kan. doing work.
She is known to drive a brown 2003 Chevrolet minivan with the Missouri license number 5CA 81L.
Police are asking anyone with information into the death of Cammisano to contact the Riverside Police Department at 741-1501 or call the TIPS hotline at 472-TIPS. A $6,000 cash reward is being offered.
