Get your entries in Landmark bracket contest

Mark your calendar. Selection Sunday is just days away, which means so is The Landmark's 11th annual NCAA basketball bracket contest.

The 65-team field will be announced this Sunday evening on CBS.

Entry in The Landmark's contest is free and limited to one per person. Brackets are due by 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 15. They can be faxed to 816-858-2313 (other methods of entry listed later in this article).

Winner will receive a $100 cash prize, and there's a new twist this season to keep things interesting for all who enter.

Landmark publisher Ivan Foley is so confident in his picks this year that he is offering rewards to those who finish with a higher score than he does. Anyone with a better score than Foley will receive two one-year subscriptions to The Landmark, the only county-wide newspaper. Both years can be applied to the entrant's subscription or keep one for yourself and give the second year to a friend or family member.

To enter The Landmark's contest, fill out a copy of the bracket (clip one out of the daily papers or pull one off of many Internet sites that will have them) predicting the winners for every tournament game. As a potential tiebreaker, write in how many total points you think will be scored in the championship game.

As stated, entries can be faxed to 816-858-2313. They can also be sent by email to or dropped off at The Landmark office at 252 Main St., Platte City. Entries can also be mailed to PO Box 410, Platte City, Mo. 64079.

Be sure to write your name and phone number on your bracket, and be sure to write for your guess for total points to be scored in the championship game.

Scoring will be done as follows:

Two points for each correct first round pick; four points for second round winners; six points for third round winners; eight points in the fourth round; 15 points in the fifth round and 25 points for picking the tourney champion.

Test your skills against Foley and Landmark columnists CK Rairden, Brian Kubicki and reporter Stacy Wiedmaier.
