sex offender gets 45-year term
David P. Brown, 53, Kansas City, was sentenced to 45
years in prison for statutory sodomy in the first degree.
Brown was found guilty by a Platte County jury on Oct.
16, after a two day trial.
Brown was working as a maintenance man in the Brentwood
Apartment Complex in the Northland. The victim, a seven-year-old
girl, lived in the apartment complex. On Nov. 18, 2000,
she was over at the defendant's home when he asked her
if she wanted to see a burnt apartment in the complex.
She agreed and accompanied him to the apartment complex
office to retrieve a set of keys. The office was closed
and the defendant and the seven-year-old entered into
a back workshop area where the sexual assault occurred.
"I am pleased with the court's sentence today,"
commented Tammy Glick, Platte County Prosecuting Attorney.
"It goes a long way towards ensuring that Mr. Brown
will never get out from behind bars to prey on any other
innocent children."
Based on earlier papers filed by Glick's office, Brown
was previously found to be a persistent sexual offender
under Missouri law. Therefore, he is required to serve
30-years of his sentence before he would become eligible
for parole. Brown had been convicted previously of the
felony of attempted sexual imposition in the state of
North Dakota for sexually assaulting his then eight-year-old
stepdaughter. That conviction occurred in 1977.
